Default Red Splotches in RAW Editing

Just tried editing some old shots in RAW. Using PS Elements 5.0. When in the Editing mode there are red blotches in the shot. When I open the image they are gone. Any idea how this can be fixed?
Thanks

Do you have it set to show you where there is clipping in the exposure?

No problem! Now you can use your software to turn down hightlights to see if you can recover some detail. Or keep it in mind in the future so you don't blow out your highlights!
