Wow, you folks have set the bar very high. My three "best" photos from 2013 don't come close to most that have already been posted, but here goes:

1) On our fourth attempt, my wife and I finally got to photograph puffins up close, from blinds on Machias Seal Island in the Bay of Fundy.

2) While driving on my way to conduct an inspection in late summer, I came across this iconic Vermont farm image, and I just had to stop.

3) A very rare attempt (for me) at street photography: In September I attended a conference in Denver. I flew out a few days early, hoping to make another quick visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. But the devastating flooding that struck the front range derailed those plans, so I spent a few days enjoying Denver proper. While walking along a lovely city park on the banks of the South Platte River (in near flood stage) I saw these newlyweds, posing in the river for their photographer. By the time I pulled out my camera they were no longer in the water but I was really captivated by this very happy couple.

Am having a very hard time narrowing it down to just three! Instead of the "best," how about three of my favorites...

First is a rainy day up at Roan Mt - have tried for some time to capture the texture/feel of the balds in winter, and really liked how this one came out.

Second is my first opportunity to view one of our state's rarest wildflowers - the "queen" of the lady's slippers (Showy Lady's Slipper).

And third is my favorite "critter" pose this year - the friendly wet face of a spotted salamander.

Only 3? A little bit random but here are 3.

A camera is a machine of light and time with the purpose of capturing a luminous moment. Like the eye it is a tool of the mind.
