Default Loon Besieged

I've never seen the mosquitos so heavy as on my trip yesterday to Crex Meadows in Wisconsin. They're always bad with all the wetlands, but this was beyond bad. Even the critters were being swarmed on. Caught this Loon close to shore, shrouded in the little bitters.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I picked up a few bites. I was drenched in Off and used 2 of their little fan thingies that blow Deet into the air. No doubt I inhaled enought Deet that I only had to breath on the little buggers to send them on their way.

Holy cow! I would last all of 30 seconds after the first bite. Then, it would be back to the car and someplace NICE. Great shot and thanks for your blood sacrifice in get it!

Thanks Gary. Good network of roads in this refuge, so we mostly use the car as a blind. Unless there was something to shoot, I kept the windows up.

My goodness - what a crowd of mosquitoes! Glad you were able to brave the conditions to bring back this fascinating photo (and sorry for the poor besieged loon!)
