Default The Granite Dells @ Watson Lake, Prescott AZ

Unusual rock formations @ Watson Lake-beautiful day in Prescott-elevation about 5300-0. Twenty degrees cooler than Phoenix.

What a fascinating, other-worldly landscape. Very interesting how granite is very resistant to erosion in the cold and wet climate of the northeast, but it weathers very quickly (in geologic terms) in a desert environment.

I lived in NH (The Granite State) for (40) yrs before retiring to Arizona-never saw anything close to this. I believe the only watercraft allowed are kayaks and row boats. Spoke with a kayak trip guide for a few minutes-said the granite rocks have about 1/16'' of "sand'' on the surface-you can rub it off but be careful-it is sharp and very hard below the sand. Asked him if this was because of glaciers or volcanic-he said no-just the millions of years of erosion. This was shot with the DA 55-300 and Ist DS

I did a search and didn't find these anywhere else on the planet.

Thanks for the kind comments-interesting place. Still exploring Arizona-something different around every mountain.

Interesting. If you look long enough they are like clouds and you can pick out animals and people. (At least looking on the screen of my phone :-) )

That's one of the comments in the travel guides-you must have better eyes than me. Glad you liked it.
