Default Monterey Bay Aquarium

Took our grandson to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. My Kx is toast, so I put my Vivitar f2.8 24mm prime on the Km without testing it out and almost all the shots were back focused. Had set for catch in focus and I just blew it. Salvaged a few. The Sunfish isn't a great shot, but the scene is just so intriguing.

I've found that I've greatly benefited from throwing the 50mm f1.8 on the camera at aquariums. The extra bit of aperture helps get more light in there. I'm also guessing the high ISO performance of the older camera isn't as great as some of the newer models so that hurts you too. Still has some interesting looks and maybe some post could get rid of some of the noise.

I took a very similar shot to yours last year. I think you can see the benefit of the f1.8 and lower noise here:

The Vivitar worked great on the Kx and, yes, the Km has a lot more noise than the Kx. I did a LOT of noise reduction to the shots to get them where they are. I really should have worked with the lens and camera before taking it on a shoot. I can get a good used Kx for a couple of hundred bucks and may go that way.

Very nice results, despite the equipment limitations! Hope you are able to get a replacement for the "dead" Kx soon.
