Default New lens scraping sound

Pentax D-FA 100 Macro WR
Brand new from the seller, the lens focus system makes a scraping sound that I never have heard on a lens. At first, I was using AF and so did not hear it, but when using manual, it is clear. I recorded the sound on my phone.

Anyway, I assume any such sound means it should be sent back and replaced.

Doesn't sound too good, almost like dry gears rotating, most sellers will offer and exchange, try that first, that would be better than going through service, I have found Pentax to be rather slow. I had to send one of my Q lenses in, first it came back with no problem found. I then sent it back with a video of the problem and they offered an exchange but that took months while they were moving the warehouse.

I sent the lens back, based also on observations on another forum of Pentax owners. The dealer (on Amazon, but Pentax authorized) only offered a refund, so I may just order a different lens since in the meantime Black Friday sales have made alternatives competitive.

Too bad about the 100WR - I just ordered one from B&H. I spent some time yesterday shooting both the 35 macro and the Viv 105, and neither one works the way I'd like anymore (not the lens's fault, but rather I'm the limiting factor). Hopefully the 100WR will offer me a good alternative, but I don't have a big enough need for it to buy it at full price!
