Default First Time DNG

Tried shooting DNG + jpegs. JPEG was totally unusable-background
Light blew out the portrait. Elements 5.0 saved the shot. K5 iis using DA 50-200.

Very nice! I've been shooting RAW for a long time, it can be very surprising to see how much you can recover over the jpg version. Your photo came out beautifully.

Thanks-I have tried PEF before without much luck-the DNG seem much more user friendly using Elements-the K5 iis will probably stay in that mode. Using. 16 gig sd card I get about 330 shots on the card

I thought that DNG was just Adobe's universal standard. I process PEF in Lightroom & export as DNG to retain processing information.

The RAW had the option of PEF or DNG-just a personal preference-DNG is easier for me

Pentax, since the K10D I believe, offer the choice of PEF or DNG. I always shoot DNG + jpeg on my K20D. As a "standard" Adobe format it works perfectly with all Adobe editing platforms. Leica is the only other company that I know uses DNG (there may be others).
