Default Playing with Nik Silver Efex

Google's recent give-away of Nik software gave me the chance to try Silver Efex - have long wanted to, but could not afford it. My computer and software are so old that it would not work "out of the box." But a little playing with WINE and FastStone helped.
Here are a few of my first attempts, including "before" and "after."

A rather bold Box Turtle out on the trail.

And a pair of Showy Lady's Slippers…

Would really appreciate any tips from experienced Nik software users, as well as critique on these my first attempts.
