Default 18-01-10 Park

Well . . . it's been a while since I took shots for myself . . .

I was planning to get back into things this summer, but it was supposed to be a nice warm day today (above zero) so I grabbed a camera.

It was my daughter's Pentax ist DS I gave her with a Cosmicar 28mm f/2.8 manual prime. And a Pentax-A 50mm f/2 as well.

I was curious if I could actually get any shots in focus, seeing how bad my eye sight is, but also to make sure the camera is working as my daughter has a photography class next semester.

So . . . at lunch I popped out.

I knew exactly where I was headed.

It's an old park around my work. The funny thing is, it's the park that I used to take my oldest daughter when we used to live in the neighborhood.

When I got there, it was as I thought. Most of the playground rides that were there that I remembered were gone. I seem to remember a monkey bar set-up, it's gone. The only thing there that I remembered was the slide. There were nice new swings put in though.

So I took a couple of shots of the park to show my daughter.

But also played around with a few more creative compositions . . .

. . . in no particular order . . .

I had a lot of fun using the old manual focus lenses.

Although I am including a kit lens in the camera set-up for my daughter, I'm telling her to try the manual focus lenses as well.

I don't know if its the Pentaprism in the Pentax ist DS, but although my eyesight is pretty bad, I think I did not a bad job at focusing. LOL.

I realized when I got out to the park that I should have brought one of my handheld light meters. That would have been a lot of fun, but I shot metered manual and toggled between following what the meter was telling me and overexposing 2/3 - 1 stop.

The other thing I personally noticed is that the 28mm felt a bit narrow on the cropped sensor body. Really makes me want to get it on a full frame body, or . . . maybe start looking for a 24mm lens of some sort. LOL.

Thanks for looking! Thanks for reading!

Yes, the *ist Ds uses a full glass Pentaprism, the *ist DLx series of bodies used Pentamirrors.

Comment much appreciated. It's been a while since I used manual focus lenses. And my eyesight has gotten a lot worse since then. I really didn't know if I could do it, especially without a split prism viewfinder. But getting out there and using the manual focus lenses, it brought back memories of using my Pentax ME Super. LOL.

@ PDL . . . Yes! That is one of the reasons I picked up the Pentax ist DS even though I had the Pentax K100d. I wanted to see if it would be easier to use manual focus lenses with the Pentaprism. Of course . . . I'm wondering how much better it would be to manual focus lenses on the Pentax K-1 with its bigger focus screen and viewfinder! LOL.
