Default Summer Vacation Wildlife

Different types of wildlife in this set. Mostly taken with the KP, DA300 and 1.4 TC. I'm really impressed with the combination, though I've added a UV filter that adds a bit of flare even shooting with the lens hood. I've mostly shot without a protecting filter, but was concerned since I've been using it so much and was going to be on a boat (big catamaran). Hard to shoot from a moving platform, even if the water on the inlet was smooth.

This is what most of the photos I took of the humpback (for that matter, it's also what a lot of my bird photos) looked like:

But I did manage one that actually showed the beast.

Jaws? The theme from the movie kept running through my head as I was trying to spot the next species of wildlife we saw.

But no, it was an orca, or Killer Whale. I never got a really good photo of one, and we were near a pretty good sized pod.

Not exactly wildlife, but the one (of many) photos I took of glacial ice that captured that pretty blue color.

There were 2 different breeds of puffins

Sea lions:

A couple of days later, on a drizzly day, I got a shot of a very bedraggled looking bird on top of a tsunami warning tower:

He looked about as cold and wet as I felt!

I was perfectly happy to leave the spit we were camping on and head inland for a couple of days. But it seems like the cold and wet are following us and it's 45F outside this morning. Rain predicted for the rest of the week (sigh), but then we are going to be back on the coast tomorrow.

I had a fabulous time! Saw lots of beautiful scenery and a few wild animals, though not as many as I would have liked. I want to return, we didnít have time to go to Dawson City, would like to go there next along with some other places.
