Hey!

I have enough money to buy either the *ist D or *ist DS. I have looked at both in the store and I would like to know if anyone would like to recommend one over the other.

Also, i know they both have "morror lock-up". What is that feature for, and how do you turn it on? Thanks!

Mirror lock up is to allow access to the CCD for cleaning; it does what it says i.e. raises the mirror & holds it there fora blowerto be used to remove dust. Pentax do not advise using a brush as they claim it could damage the CCD.

As for *isD vs *istDS, I'm unsure but if I could have afforded it, I'd probably have gone for the *istD as I had Compact Flash cards to use - this also means that it's compatible with micro drives as well.

Personally, I find the AutoPic mode on the *istDS a bit tacky & superfluous as all the modes can be selected by the switch.

thanks catbells, i think i might gor for the *ist D because alot of the controls are external.

also...it says the mirror lock-up can be activated with the self-timer on the *ist ds. that is strange because why would someone activate the self-timer to clean the camera?

thanks!

manual mirror lock up is to get rid of camera vibration when the shutter is activated. it's used with the timer exactly for this reason.

no one would use the timer to lock up the mirror to clean the sensor. there a setting on the ds for this.
