I am looking for an excellent carry around lens for my DS. This lens has been recommended to me for its reasonable price and excellent sharpness.

Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Sigma 18-125mm lens on a Pentax 1stDS? Or another similiar focal length lens. Another lens that I spotted was the Pentax 80-105mm lens.

Thanks in advance for your input.

As I posted elsewhere, the Pentax FA 28-105mm f/3.2-4.5 is one of the most highly recommended lenses for your camera. Pentax users at other forums say this is a "must have" lens. $209.95 at B & H. Love mine, and it's sharper at the extremes of focus than the Sigma.

Opps! forgot to say, stay away from the Pentax 80-105; it's a dog of a lens! Several users, including me got it, sent it back. Focus stinks and it's WAY too soft. Save your money for something else-like the Pentax DA 50-200mm shipping in June at $299 USD.

That is the lens I got with my 1stDS and I love it so far.

It seems sharp and light, for ease of use.

The focal length make it very veratile.

Rob-

It looks like I was able find the Pentax 28-105mm F3.2 lens at Adorama for $199.00. I will feel more secure when they confirm shipping. Thanks for the reccommendation, that is right in the zoom range that I want for my Pentax 1stDS.

Rob-

www.adorama still has not confirmed shipping, but I remain positive. I had better remain positivebecause we leave for a three week trip to China on 05/24!
