I've got to back up a little. I've got pretty good "vision" for getting a shot but you guys are inspiring me something fearce. What I don't understand is how to trigger the shutter on these contraptions. I've GOT to try this stuff.

I never thought bugs would get my attention.

once you start doing this you'll have a monkey on your back forever.

to fire the shutter- put the ist on manual focus and move in and out on your subject to focus. i find that setting the lens on infinity gives you the greatest distance. shoot at around f11. this should give you a working distance of 3-4'' w/a 50mm lens. i know it's dark but you'll get use to it.

as far as keeping them steady--good luck, but if you find something on a wall or other stable place, put the lens or your hand against it so you have a steady platform.

I find adjusting the focus ring does SFA.. er nothing at all :blah:

I just keep moving closer till its focused, use the flash on full power, i shoot at f16 for maximum depth of field (which with the lens backwards is very shallow!)

Here is a trick i found though. If you find you are having trouble seeing anything, because its too dark, put your finger to the front of the lens and move the little lever that the camera uses to open the apeture to full width, get the shot pretty well focused, let go and take the picture. Seems to work pretty well.

Hopefully ill get started on this led thing tomorow morning will make it much easier to see
