Well it's the 4th of July in Las Vegas. It's been 107 *F for days now so I've spent my holiday inside reading about digital photography. I rode around this morning for 4 hours checking out places setting up firework displays. I've check winds for smoke direction. I've checked for powerlines and light polution. I've read page upon page of techique for photographing fireworks. I've got an 8 pound tri-pod and a remote and several lenses. Time for me to stake out a spot and give it a whirl. Wish me luck.

I really hope I get to see reports/images of all your attempts tonight as well.....those who have such plans that is. Good luck.

Aw come on Rob. I think it was a great shot.Besides, it is not always possible for buildings in the foreground.

went up on the roof of a loft i'm finishing today and found out it would have been perfect to shoot the display in dallas. the fireworks would have been between the site and the dallas sky line. oh well, sour grapes.

None with buildings this time.

The thin threads of fireworks do not display well in small images. For a short time, I will post full resolution of a couple of these on my web site so you guys can download and see what this amazing camera is capable of. I won't leave these 1mb+ files on the site for long.

P.S.
The rest of the pictures are on that page also.

I've sat in the Cotton Bowl many times with a 35 trying to shoot the fireworks but never did any good.
