On the istDS there is an on|off option in the setup menu labeled "Guide display". I'm not able to determine what this setting does. It does not seem to make any difference in what is displayed on either the LCD monitor (back) or the LCD panel (top). Does anyone know what the heck this setting is? The operating manual only makes two references to it:

"Set to display indicators in LCD monitor" (p99)

"Set to display guides on the LCD monitor when main switch is on or Exposure mode is changed" (p167)

I think it applies to the display that shows in the LCD monitor when you fire the sucker up (it lets you know what your setting is, like auto pict, sports, etc) Setting it to off on mine means it doesn't show up when you turn the camera on. It probably just serves as a reminder what your setting is before you fire away.
