Sorry I didn't post right. This is the problem I was talking about with Pentax. Were they able to resolve successfully? They said expensive. :?

Yes, I got the camera back about a month or so ago. No problems since. Pentax Colorado also did a thorough cleaning. The repair required replacing a circuit board. The board had to be shipped from Japan which is why it took so long to get the camera back (~2+ months).

Thanks for the reply. At least now I know what to expect. Luckily my next big trip is in November so if it takes that long and doesn't cost an arm and a leg it will be worth it. Of course then I don't have it for the rest of the summer .....

As far as expense, the repair was about $240-250 USD including shipping. RG

I acquired a DX in June. Immediately after, the sensor went. I sent it to Pentax, who repaired and returned the camera. After less than 200 frames, the metering system has go bogus, rendering completely washed out frames. 3+ stops over exposure. It is on its way back to Pentax. Nice enough camera, but right now I am having serious regrets/concerns about the acquisition. I have had a Fuji S7000 for over two years without a hitch. And in my film cameras, I never had a problem with a CCD! I am still hoping for the best, but between my shipping to Pentax and Pentax shipping to me, we are in close to $100.

I've had my *istDs since February of last year and it's performed OK. although I have experienced afew of 'funnies':

1. Camera lock up - would not respond to anything. Had to remove batteries in order to switch it off. It has only happened once.

This problem is not unique to the *istDS. Anything that has software buried it is prone to this. My Fuji 4700 used to do it quite often. It also happened once on my Fuji S602.

2. SD Card not recognised - I always use a card reader to transfer images to PC. Popped the SD Card back in. Next time I came to use it, just would not recognise the card. Removed the SD Card, popped it back in & was OK. Contacts looked clean. Hasn't done it again.

3. Lens focus issues - removed lens and re-fitted. Worked OK. This has happened a few times. Probably dirty contact. Wiped surface of the bayonet mount with a cotton bud which was black.

Nothing in life is perfect so the few minor quirks that I've experience hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for the *istDS.

Oh. The 4th bug was that the camera failed to recognise that I moved out of doors & failed to switch from Tungsten white balance to daylight - or was that me - can't be me - I'm perfect
