There has been talk here recently about buying several SD cards instead of a bigger capacity card.

What about the file numbers, ie. IMPG0000, etc.

If I use one card for, say, 60 PEF shots, then put in another card, how can I easily control the file numbers??? I know how to do that by re-writing a file to the card, but doesn't it eventually lead to identical file names anyway???

Is there some other way to control the IMPG prefix????

Thanks, Rich

My DS controls the file numbers and it doesn't make any difference how many storage cards you use, the camera does the counting.

if you put a file on your card with imgp9998 it will reset the counter to that and the next will be imgp9999, as an example

just be sure that the card that you put in doesn't have a numbered image on it . the cam should take care of the rest.

Unloading the images to computer I make the computer rename them with the

Camera wizardwith YYYY MM DD then it adds a number

And behold numbered and organized by date for your filing system

Great when you're looking up re prints for clients

Thanks, everyone.

This is really helpful... it solves the question over whether to buy a bigger card or another smaller one.

Yes, I am interested too.

I have two SD card swap them when I am shooting and have had no problems with duplicates, the camera knows how many images it has shot.:blah:
