Just like the topic states. I am looking into purchasing my first DSLR. I need to know if I can use my old lenses from my Spotmatic with any of the ist's (I'm looking at the ISTDL right now) If they are compatible it would seal the deal for me.

Yes

If they are screw mount lenses you will need the standard pentax screw to k mount adaptor.

For screw mounts your metering oprions are limited to full manual and apeture priority automatic operation.

There is a menu option you need to set in the custom menu to use older lenses.

Of course you need to manually focus, but then even with autofocus lenses you still need to manually focus in some situations.

DS and DL both can use any old M42-lens with adapter. Difference DL/DS is that the DS has a penta-prisma and interchangeble screens and the DL ha a penta-mirror with fixed screen.

The DL has a 2,5"-LCD the DS 2", but both with the same resolution - so not that real improvement ....
