Crashman, I too have the DL, and the Sigma EF500ST (not he Super) flash. To my disappointment the TTL function does not work with the DL. I end up with shots thatare way overexposed in an average 20' x 20' room at night.

It looks to me TTL is lacking in the DL because when I take the same shots witha Pentax AF280T flash (set to TTL) the same overexposure occurs. However when set to either of the two AUTO settings on the AF280T the shots were perfectly exposed (ie. nothing wrong with the camera).

I used to use the AF280T on my Pentax ME Super of the eighties, and could not get TTL to work either. Upon checking in a book by Carl Shipman (How to select and use Pentax SLR cameras) I discovered that the TTL setting of the AF280T would only work with the Pentax LX, because only the LX, at that era, had the TTL.

I do not think that I made any wrong settings, the EF500ST was set to TTL, the DL was set to AUTO PICT (same overexposure even if I set to any other settings). Hope you can tell me if I did anything wrong, or else I have a dud flash:sad:. The EF500ST has only TTL and twoManual settings; no AUTO settings.

I shall be getting in touch with both Pentax and Sigma on my dilemma.

Gee, I hope you are wrong on that bit. I have not heard of the DL not having TTL support for flash. My dealer was the one that selected the Flash as the correct one for the DL.

I can tell you now if the flash does not do TTL when I pick it up, he is taking it back and getting me one that does.

This is from the pentax site for the DG Super and that makes me think it will and yours is simply not working properly because the EF-500 DG ST does not support TTL.

This is for the DG Super

http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english...0dg_sup.htm#05

Sigma EF 500 DG Super compatibility chart shows Auto TTL for all Pentax D cameras including DL and Autozoom Head. :G

This is the ST, unfortunately for you there appears to be no compatibility for the DL.

from googleing i seem to find that the DL does not support off camera TTL flash.
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0506/05...entaxistdl.asp ck the flash modes supported.. the owner manual should also tell you what modes are supported..
although it does support P-TTL. so it looks like the sigma super will work but not the non-super.

Well thats interesting.

According to that review the DL has :

• Hot-shoe
• Wireless sync
• P-TTL sync

These features are the same as the DSon the review, i.e. hadn't been changed since DS, all changes were marked with an "*" I just might not need that cable anyways as the DG super is Wireless Sync too. The Sigma site says the DL is not supported for wireless sync, but Pentax says it is.

Looks like I have some experimenting to do when it arrives.:-)

In the mean time, has anyone got a Sigma EF500DG super and tried wireless sync on their DS or DL with it??
