What happened to the tele zoom lens (that was recently assumed to be 60-250)?

Hi Gerard,

that lens is posponed to 2007 because the AF-System has to be changed for the new bodies (faster AF)

btw: Details and pictures of some of the news are here:

Hi Alfred,

Thanks, that is good news - both that it will come out and that it will have fast AF!

Alfred,

I hope it's just smaller improvements, and not meaning that a new AF- or mount system, not compatible with the old lenses is under development.....

It would be strange if the new AF system isn't compatible with the old, why would Pentax be bringing out new lenses with the old AF mount if they were to replace it soon? No, the new AF system will be backwards compatible. Pentax has had patents for this since the late 90's - in the KAF3 mount, the power zoom contacts in the full KAF2 mount specification are used to power and to control new in-lens electronics. This means a dual-compatible system - more expensive to produce than the inexpensive lens mount used by Canon, but perhaps old users of Pentax can accept paying a little extra for staying compatible with the old.

Take care*
