I am looking for a telephoto zoom lens for my Pentax DS. I am new to photography and I am intrested in taking pictures of bird. I am looking for something that is longer than 300mm, decent quality (not best/perfect) and not something that wil cost an arm and a leg for. Maybe something under $200. Older used lense OK.

At the time I doubt I will be printing the picture out and if for some reason if I did, it wont be bigger then 4x6. Will those cheap ebay lense do the job? I am mainly looking for something that I can play around with for right now since I am still learning. Later on (not anytime soon) I plan to buy a really nice telephoto zoom lense. I also dont want something that is el cheapo and will give me really poor quality picture even when viewing it online.

I bought a Sigma 100-300mm lense from bhphoto.com used for about $80 shipped. I dont know what model number or how old it is but it seems to do a really good job but dont get close enough. Is this lense good enough to buy a 1.4x teleconvertor?

Any suggestion?
