I just got my brand new Pentax *ist DS and can't figure out why they used "Tv" and "Av" for the shutter priority and aperture priority settings. Can anyone tell me why?

Here are my guesses.

Tv: T stands for time so this works for shutter speed measured in time.

Av: A stands for Apeture.

I believe they stand for Time Value and Aperture Value.

what he's saying is that in Tv, you pick theexposure speed and the cam picks correct aperture.

in Av, you pick the aperture and the cam picks the correct speed.

i only use M or Av.

I agree Roy

Getting the right DOF by choosing your Aperature is more important than the speed, except when the automatically selectedspeed drops too low.

Also allows you to choose the aperature that best suits your lens' sweet spot for those super sharp, extra contrast photographs that we all aim for. :|
