Should be about $35 (aud) from your local camera shop, ask for a Pentax K-mount M42 adapter ring

Hello. Be careful buying adapters from eBay. I wasted money buying adapters off eBay. Most did not allow focusing to infinity. All you need is one and real Pentax M42 to K-mount adapters can be purchased direct from PentaxImaging.com for about $30, Henry's Camera in Canada, or Jack's Camera, Muncie, Indiana. The real Pentax M42 adapters work beautifully, can be removed easily, rather than getting stuck on the camera like some off brands can.

Here is what a Pentax one looks like, which mounts flush with the camera body and has a spring that holds it is place.

I believe those inferior adaptor cause infinity focus collimation problem just because the lack of precision but not owing to any other technical problem. It is because both the M42 and the Pentax K-mount have a back-focus register distance of 46mm (IIRC for the exact figure). It is therefore the screw should be made inside the K-mount, which has a larger diameter, with high precision that the screw-mount lens should not be changed in back-fro position when it is screwed and stopped (at a correct position).

There is no surprise when there is lack of precision, lenses become unable to focus to infinity. My *ist DS was my first Pentax SLR/DSLR which was unable to focus to infinity with many of my Pentax AF prime lenses. If interested for more, here is the details of my story and how it went:- http://www.geocities.com/ricehigh/A_...rporation.html

The infinity focus problem on the non Pentax adapters is caused by the adapter not fitting flush with (into) the camrea body, thus making the focal length slightly longer than the lenses were designed for.
