BTW, can anyone identify this particular bird, some sort of sparrow I believe but I can't pin it down. I live in the central part of the island of Newfoundland if that helps identify it.
It's a sparrow, Passer domesticus. It's cosmopolitan, was some 30 years ago one of the most common birds near human quarters, following us like mice. I've seen it in South Africa and Colombia (and of course Sweden). For unknown reasons it has decreased in numbers, but is still far from rare. In your pictures are a pair, they are actually fairly faithful, sometimes through life. More common is Passer montanus, which lacks the grey on the male's head.

Here's a couple of turkeys that were in my yard a few weeks ago.

He's certainly putting on a show. I've always liked turkeys though I don't see them much around here. I once lived in a small canyon/valley in Texas and there were over a hundred. The flock had started out as 3 wild and 3 domestic turkeys and within a few years the white domestic coloring was gone completely.

Hahaha, my first trip to the local zoo to try out my DLwith my new 70-300mm Sigma....5 or 6 good shots of monkey faces, 100-150 shots of Monkey Butt.

You want to see Monkey, Butt, I've got lots of Monkey Butt.

OK, call me boring now, here is a common crow, perched in a tree in my backyard in a rain shower (on the original shot you can actually see lines where the raindrops are passing). Through the back window again with the 100-300mm at the long end.

Here is his friend foraging for food, and an example of why I haven't posted any flower pictures yet (although the tulips are above the ground). You can see the water droplets on his back.

Tom,

Just a common crow, we get ravens occasionally in town but they are much larger then these guys were.

Ira

BTW it has been raining here since Saturday, some communities have had flooding and there are some roads washed out. Our snow is melting very fast with all this rain and causing streams to overflow. It is extremely foggy here at the moment. Not much chance to get outside for pictures, just whatever happens by my back window (conveniently near the computer desk).

These birds come back each year and nest in the same spot.
