I went to my Pentax repairer to pick up a monopod he got in cheap for me and we got chatting as one does when someone who knows a heck of a lot more about Pentax cameras than me starts talking.

Suddenly he goes "Have you seen my new 300mm F4 lens?" and he opens the drawer and out comes this old case and slides out this Big wide (82mm filter thread) 300mm F4 lens and hands it to me.

Well I fell in love the minute I twisted the aperture collar and it snapped quickly and cleanly to F4 and the iris just kept on getting bigger and bigger.

It is light for its size and I say, "So you going to keep it?"

He says, "No"

I say, "How much?"

He goes " I bought it with a camera I wanted to buy and the lens I don't need, $250."

"Done deal" was all I could say and shook his hand.

Couldn't wait to get it home, busting to get out and shoot some shots with it this weekend, he said that it was very sharp and a beautiful lens.

He then goes on to show me a stack of other lenses he has got hidden in drawers like a 135mm/F1.8, darn wide lens. I told him to give me a list of what he has got to sell and I would post it up for those who might be interested in some lenses.

Ira, as a Pentax Takamur Officiando, I would like your opinion...:G

I believe $185US ($211CAD) is a good price, don't you?

Its bigger than my Tamron 80-250 F3.5 and makes my Sigma 70-300 look totally anorexic

Wow! That's some lens - can you ever hand-hold it? That's the thing that always stops me from buying big lenses (and ones beyond 200mm) - I know myself and I won't mess much with tripods (I do want a monopod). Is it sharp?

It weighs about 1 to 1.5kg (about 3 lbs)

I just got a Slik 350 monopod which will handle up to 11.00 lbs. / 4,980 grams

http://www.thkphoto.com/products/slik/slik-13b.html

I only bought the lens about 5 hours ago and and it is night time here now, so Saturday, Sunday and definitely Monday (ANZAC day)before I can give it a work out.

I have been told it is very Sharp. I am just trying t work out its age, But I am only guessing that it is somewhere back in the dark ages, I think series 1.

Forgive this pic, used my phone to take it. As you can see it sits well on the monopod and well within the weight carryingcapacity.

I will be in to see you tomorrow hehe. My guy works in Subiaco/West Perth. Do you now the registered Pentax repairer in Churchill Street?

Sorry about the 135mm/f1.8 I asked about that and he said that was a keeper for his collection.

PM me with your work address and I will come visit tomorrow.

Is it screw mount or K-mount?
