RiceHigh, for your infomation, I took a series of static pictures using the different scene modes. Alll were shot with the same settings: AWB, Auto ISO (200-800), Autoflash (internal) Multisegment Metering and Spot Focus.

Although the camera info page show no different in setting of saturation and sharpness, but the picture shot in 'Text" mode show much higer sharpness than the others. And there seems to be no different between Cat & Dog :-).

I will post those pictures, see for yourself, hope this help. -BE.
BE, Your shootout experiment is great and thanks for the very useful information for reference! :-)

BTW, it can be seen that the scene mode actually select different settings of ISO speed, Av, Tv, exposure level, sharpening and maybe other things like contrast, saturation, etc. also. And as you said, the camera shows no info of what it has selected and set but it is yet obvious from your shootout test pics that it *does* do something carefully.

Well, it would be more interested if you can carry out another test with pictures shot under natural ambient light, instead of flash light!

Lastly, I think you should use Cat Mode to shoot your Garfield anyway ;-)

Well, today is very sunny and warm outside, so I figure, why not. Besides, unlike Hong Kong here's still the weekend :G:G.

All pictures taken with DA 50-200, AWB, Auto ISO (200-800), Center-weighted Metering and Auto Flash (but since it is sunny, flash didn't fire at all). Focus set to the white garage door at the middle of the pictures. As you can see, the one set to "text" is again sharper and the one set to sunset" has a yellow cast to it.
