Do those of you that have cases for your lenses keep them in them when carrying them around to use? I have a couple of lenses that have cases or pouches. Surprisingly enough (for me, at least) 2 of them still have the cases, mainly because they weren't my primary lenses. I've been carrying and playing with these lenses recently and am finding the cases a pain. So I was wondering if others put the cases aside when you are carrying them around in a camera bag. Do they really add enough protection to make it worthwhile?

There was a time when I carried all my Pentax lenses in Pentax nylon bags, but I don't do that any longer and I have no idea why.

With a good quality bag, I see no reason to carry more stuff that would slow me down (by added weight and time taken to use) still further. My Lowe bag has padded partitions and I view the additional lens bags as redundant. Of course, since I'm an accumulator, I keep all the bags the lenses came in - just in case. I just don't take them with me.

Like Everyone So far, I Do not use the lense cases or bags. My Tamrac Bag Is very well paded and protect my lenses just fine.

I've made two bags myself.

One is a "daily-carry-bag" made of a beauty box (intended for make-up, how much do they need?) and a camping matress. In this I don't use any lens-cases, since the bag is well padded in itself. It was cheap, fun to make and in my opinion better than the Lowe-Pro I tested first.

The other one is a "travel case" made of a hard-shell carry-on-bag, some plywood and foam plastic. In this I use some, but not all, lens-cases. Most of these I have also made myself.
