This is my first post, but I have been reading since I joined...I am just a student on a small budget, so after I buy my DL I will not have much money.* How much will I need to spend on a good quality lens with more telephoto than the kit lens?* It doesn't need to be auto-focus, but it does need to be inexpensive.**Thanks for the help.

I know all about student budgets, so I have bought a slecelction of used lens for my DS.

If you shop around there are bargains to be had as any lens fro a filn Pentax body will work on the new Digital bodies.

Some functionality may be lost but the budget prices more than make up for it.

Even old screw mount lens will fit with the standard pentax screw to K mount adaptor.

travis,
welcome to the board.
best lens i've found so far is the smc-A70-210mm f4. a remarkable lens for the ebay price.. it's a real pleasure to use, altho, it's built like a tank with the weight included.

You wont go wrong with the Pentax 50-200mm DA lens which, with a kit lens at 18-55mm, would give you coverage from 18-200mm. It's relatively small & light and constantly receives good reviews.

I have one & am extremely pleased with it's ergonomics & performance.

the smc(new)55-200 will run you about +200us
the A70-210 f4on ebay will be $40-100 depending. another good choice is the M80-200 f4.5 in the same price range. both are constant aperture and faster than the smc DA55-200. i'm not saying the new smc 55-200 is a bad lense as it is not. it's just twice the cost..

When buying on ebay you can never be sure of the quality or condition & indeed whether it will turn up - you pays yer money & takes yer choice.

I think I will purchase the 70-210 lens eventually.* Since it is so cheap, it will not hurt so bad if I get one of low quality, hopefully I will not though.* I would love to get the 55-200, but since I am getting the camera now and need the lens soon I don't have the money for that lens now.* Thanks for your time and help.
