I shot this supercell thunderstorm earlier in May in Barton County, Mo. I e-mailed the shot to the National Weather Service Office in Springfield, mo. and a meteorologist there told me they confirmed a tornado touchdown under the middle of this storm at the same time this shot was taken. Weather photos are a specialty of mine.
jhacker,
welcome to the forum. especially with such a fine first image..

I know that this isn't entirely proper but after the "interesting" run of icicle pictures I do wish to make a comment. It is interesting that all of my favourite shots were done with Pentax cameras, K1000, ME super, KX, Optio 33L or *istDL. My all time favourite is digital, from the Optio 33L and here it is:

I know this was not a Pentax DSLR image but it does represent what my vision of a good image is. Just yesterday I went on a boat trip around the Exploits region of Newfoundland and on examining my images I have come to a few conclusions about my photography:
1) As Kjell once told me, my images of small detail are far more pleasing than my attempts at sweeping vistas (above image excluded) (not his exact words but the jist of it).
2) I am not very proficient with a wide angle lens.
3)The lowly, lightweight, plastic mount, FA 100-300mm f4.7-5.8 lens is incredibly underrated.

Here is an example, shot at 250mm with the FA 100-300, hand held at near the closest focusing distance:

my all time favorite, like Ira's was shot on a non-dslr, in my case a fuji s602, so i won't post it. i've only gota little over2000 shots so far with my dl but it's still hard to choose. here's one of my favorites from last week. it's a pink lady slipper orchid, shot with my sigma 70-300 on macro with probably all my extension tubes. 1/2 second, no f/stop listed cause i was on the extension (and i can't remember ), ISO 200. i've only seen these flowers in jack pine re-gen (planted trees 15-20 years old) though they must grow in other spots. a little levels and some cloning of a few dust spots and one small piece of a spider web that just didn't fit.

Taken in Sydney of Railway Square which is a big intersection. Taken through glass of the hotel I work for (which I was staying in) for the night. Turned out better than I expected!!

Super!

It's the kind of photo you see in photobooks and only dream of taking yourself!
