Shot these yesterday with the 400mm Takumar with 1.4 tc. This combo of lens and teleconverter seems to work pretty well. Mind you, the minimum focus distance is 27', so you don't have to worry too much about spooking the birds...cheers.......Don.

Lovely pics, my favourite is number 3. I think birds are great to photograph, so much detail in their feathers.

Thanks Alison and Roy. It's a heavy combo to haul around, and my cheap tripod is way too much on the light side. I bought a heavier duty ball head that supports 10 lbs, but the tripod needs replacing. That'll be the next investment....does it ever end??...Don.
