Recieved this lens yesterday. Man, that was fast! Bought it on Sunday, and arrived yesterday morning from New York. Nice lens. Pretty fast for photograping in bad light where I'm usually chasing wildlife. No purple fringing to remove either, unlike my 400mm screw mount. This lens is very sharp, even wide open. I'm going to try it again this morning on a tripod. These were all hand held. EXIF is there for viewing. Funny thing about the exif data. It's a 300mm prime, and the focal lengths stated in the exif data range from 240-300. Weird.........Don.

what lens is this? from the title i thought it was a FA*300 f4.5. but that's a prime and the focal length stays the same. so what lens is this?

My FA* 300 shows up as a 300mm only on all my photos and never as some other focal length.

Ya it's weird. It's the FA *300mm. But somehow the exif in the reader I use gives variable focal lengths. There is no zoom, and it's definitely the FA *300, so maybe the exif reader is faulty or something in communication between camera and lens....cheers.......Don.
