1600mah will not work very well with the D series Pentax cameras, my 2500mah batteries will last for about 500-800 shots with no problem.

Steer clear of the rechargeable CR-v3 batteries. There are issues with higher voltages than listed on the batteries and you don't want to fry your new camera do you??

Some users have got a specific brand that they use and claim they get correct voltages, "Rice High" for one user that has them and he claims the ones he has are okay and safe to use.

I have both Sanyo and Eveready NiMH. The Sanyos seems to self-discharge really fast. I only use the Energizers in my camera and flash now. The Sanyos are relegated to toys now. Having a good quality charger (I use Maha) helps too.

Well, yesterday and today I went out with the camera, same set of batteries (uniross Ni-MH 2400) and took over 400 shots and they are still going! lol!

The battery meter on the camera indicated low batteries but I just carried on shooting and they didn't die on me.

Yeah, they are made out of Bangers, Mash and Mushy Green Peas.

I had a fuel gauge like that. Registered 1/4 of a tank when it still had half a tank and the sat on empty for 150km.
