Took this today with the 28-105mm Power Zoom in the Niagara Falls park where they have quite a few Black Squirrels. This one doesn't seem to be able to decide if it is black or brown and the tail is a bit worse for wear also.

What a beautiful squirrel, we only get the grey ones round where I live, some parts of the country have red squirrels but I don't think we have any black ones, shame, they are rather smart looking.

He almost looks like he's shedding, but I don't think squirrels do in the same way that heavily furred dogs or horses do. Our local ones don't have changes of color/fur like that. We have the common grey/brown ones and at the house ones that are all grey. I still haven't been able to get a decent photo of one - they are always either too far away or won't hold still long enough.

I'm wondering if he has mange or might be sick. That patch on his head and that stringy tail doesn't look too healthy

We have black squirrels in Wisconsin and they neve shed their fur, but this one looks like is is a cross color. I didn't have too much trouble taking the photo since the squirrel was not afraid at all, but I still can't get them to use photographic equipment like Steve can.
