The Tamron 28-300 was the first lens I bought for my DS (I had the kit lens, too), and I enjoy using it. The DA 50-200mm has become my favorite lens, though.

I'm to the point where I rarely take a shot without a tripod or monopod. I have a Slik monopod that folds up really small and a Dynatran tripod with a pistol grip ball head. In addition, I have an ancient tripod that I picked up for $15 at an estate auction. It is really heavy, but stable as a rock. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of a quick release plate (I should spring for one).

Oh wow, glad I saw this. I was about to order the Sigma 70-300, but I think this will be better. Next week I will be in a dusty / sandy place, where I want to be switching lenses very very few times. With the Tamron I will be able to get better wide shots. Thanks for posting about it! (I love this forum... )
