Hi Gang - I went out again today and the Mariposa's are making there last stand with the tempature running at 96 degrees the last couple of days. I kind of liked this one, so thought I would share it. The hot wind is raising havoc with them. I guess Spring is gone for another year, huh? Of course you guys down under must really be getting excited in anticipation- Bruce

PS - Notice the spent Desert Yellow Daisy to the right of the bottom lily.

Today is July 3rd and the Lilies in the picture along with hundreds of others and wonderful sagebrush and wild bunchgrass was destroyed this morning in an arson set wildfire. I have photographed over 80 different wildflowers on this site, some of these are gone forever now. Apparently some people like to celebrate the 4th inthere ownsick way. This was a fire started by fireworks thrown intosome dry cheat grass alongside the road. I know thereare a lot of crazy people, but why do we have toget them all up here. To destroy the beauty of nature for no reason just doesn't make sense. An accidental fire is one thing, but a deliberate one does not make sense- Bruce

How sad! Isn't it frustrating to have some people be so thoughtless?

I'm so afraid that this year will be a bad one for brush fires in our area - everything is drying out fast in the heat we've been having. Last year was bad enough - Labor Day found us without power for a couple of dayswhen an overheating car pulled too far off the freeway and parked on some dry grass. The resulting brush fire took out about a mile of power lines that feed our areaand closed the main way into where I live - causing us to drive several hours more to get home from a shopping trip to Costco.

Take care out there, everyone, and pay attention to what's going on around you!
