don't forget the tokina 90mm.
the sigma 105, 150, 180mm, wasn't mentioned but a very nice lenses.

bottom line is that if it's rated as a real macro 1:1 or 1:2 you pretty much can't go wrong

My DL kit arrived today and so did the 50-200mm lens. The Tamron has been shipped and I purchased a carrying case too. Now to study the manual and get into shooting w/ my new toy. Maybe we should begin a new thread just for that - i.e., newbies to the world of Pentax SLR. This thread was terrific and I learned alot, but I think it is aging now like a fine wine.

What do you think of this lens?? It has magnification ratio of 1:2 and close focus is 95 cm. Can it be used with diopter lens (Nikon T6) to get higher magnification? Or is it better to go for pure macro like the ones you mentioned before?

Justinian compiled this great list and left out mine and its, cousins:

PENTAXSMCP-F 100mm 2.8 Macro (mine - it's a wonderful macro but too clear for a portrait - unless you either want to show all of your model's tiny blemishes or are willing to make them go away with Photoshop)

PENTAXSMCP-F 50mm 2.8 Macro

PENTAXSMCP-FA 100mm 2.8 Macro

PENTAXSMCP-FA 50mm 2.8 Macro
Quote:

PENTAX-SMC D FA Macro 50mm F2.8 1:1
PENTAX-SMC D FA Macro 100mm F2.8 1:1
PENTAX SMC 50-200mm DA
TAMRON SP Macro 90mm F2.8 AF - or the newer, more expensive version Di.
PENTAX SMC Takumar 100 mm f4 screwmount macro
PENTAX SMC-M 100 mm f4
VIVITAR 90mm f2.8 MACRO LENS FOR 'K' MOUNT BODIES
VIVITAR 105mm f
LESTER DINE (Kiron) 105mm K mount
PHOENIX 100mm macro

There you go. I think I got most of them. Sorry if the font are not identical because I had to cut and paste them in and the fonts would not change. Unless you're like "Monk" you won't mind that.

Cheers,
Justinian

OK guys and fellow LBA-ddicts...what do you think about these lenses? Has anyone had any experience with them? They are all pretty inexpensive.

(1) Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD 1:2 Macro
(2) Tamron 200-400mm f/5.6 AF LD IF
(3) Pentax SMCP-FA 80mm-320mm f/4.5-5.6
(4) Pentax SMC P-FA J 75-300mm F4.5-5.8 AL
(5) Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO Super DG

Every person w/ LBA (and there are many in this forum) have their own particular symptoms. My symptoms (today) are creating in inexorable urge to buy a zoom telephoto lens to 300mm or more. The prime telephoto lenses are way too expensive right now, so I'll have to settle for a zoom. But....I do not want to replicate what I already have. Since I own a Pentax 50-200mm, what do you recommend from the above list, or perhaps something else I have overlooked, that would not replicate the focal range of the 50-200? Replies are urgently needed and will serve as temporary relief from the nagging signs of LBA.

Gratefully,
Justinian

I feel like a tool, but what does LBA mean? I'm assuming from what I'm reading something on the lines of Lens Buying Addiction, but I just want to confirm.
