rufus, do you have this flash? i'd appreciate an example of it's use at f16, high speed sync at about 1/500-1/1000sec, macro distance... that's waht i'm looking for..

Yes, that's the one I have. I attempted shots for you before at macro but couldn't get anything decent because I currently don't have a way of getting the flash off of the camera. Shots were posted in this thread. I think with your flash rig it will work out quite nice for you.

yes , i saw the examples, but nothing at f16+ which is required at macro distances. point is rather moot now tho as i've ordered it.. time will tell..

I bought my Sigma 500 DG from Sigma4less and had no problems with the transaction. Sigma4less seems like a reliable outfit to me.

I have been lurking here for awhile because I need a new flash for my DL. 285 won't work on some things...Is the Sigma 500 Super actually a better flash than the Af540 or just has a price advantage? Anyone just this flash with a Gary Fong diffuser?

sigma has a higher guide number and is well over $100 less than the 540. i just could not justify the cost of the 540

drat,
this was delayed a day from yesterday and it's still not here today. after reading the manual it seems like it's going to be like buying a prosumer camera for your first camera. seems to be a very sophisticated flash... wish ups would get here..
