Hi,

I already have Pentax DA 50-200. This lens can deliver good enough quality pictures for my standard, but I need longer range to about 300 mm. I don't have special assigment for this lens.On my local shops there are stocked lenses on the same price range of Sigma 70-300 DG macro , Pentax FA 100-300, Pentax FA 75-300 AL and used Pentax FA 80-320 (in good condition). Which lens is better performing on long end (300mm) ?

Thanks for your advice.

Why don't you go and try to make a couple of pictures with them on long end

I also want more reach than my 50-200 has and the most likeli candidate for this purpose is FA 80-320. Unfortunately I can't compare it to DA 50-200, but people say that it has constant f4,5 to 200mm and is definately sharper than 50-200 till the 200mm.

If you decide to buy Sigma 70-300, go for APO version.

I'm very pleased with my FA 80-320. I haven't compared it in person to anything else, but it gets good reviews (and is slightly more expensive used than the Pentax 100-300s or the FA-J 75-300). You can see some photos I took with it at this thread: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=80

If you are going the used 80-320 route, make sure you check out the lens on your DSLR. So far, I've had 2 of these beauties show a distinct lack of communication with my *ist D. When set to A, neither would register an apperture in the viewfinder. A fully operational version will do so.

Hi ertomo

I cannot speak for the Pentax 80-320. However i own the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro F4.5-5.6. this works great with My DS.

The lens... and someone behind the camera... pointing in the right direction and pressing the shutter button in the right microsecond...
