I agree, the rose and the rose of sharon shots unfortunately were not in any direct sunlight because of their location so they didn't turn out as bright as I would like personally.

My lilies are always in direct light:

Here's an example of the problem I'm having.
The JPG was taken on the Vivid setting, and the RAW was taken on the natural setting and processed with ACR on Auto settings.
As you can see, the reds just seem to get burnt and lose all detail.
Theres actually a slight improvement when viewed on a PC, on the camera they look even worse!

I wasn't sure if I was actually seeing the same as you were seeing with the reds until today. This is a shot of the same rose as I took above, but fully open. I think the reds on this are very exaggerated. So I think you are right.
