why not get a few achromatic filters? Nikon 5T and 6T are good, and for extreme macro the raynox DCR-250 is supposed to be good. check out the board on these fourms for lenses for fixed lens cameras

Hi gumnnut,

Another alternative that works well is a Vivtar KA 2x Macro Focusing Teleconverter. No longer made, but available occasionally from the usual suspects (ebay, KEH, B&H, Pentax User Classifieds). Be aware that there is also a K version of the same TC which does not have the electical contacts and has to be used like a K or M lens in the Pentax DSLRs. Prices, of course vary, but you could probably get one for significantly less than $100 US. It doubles the FL of your lens, and in addition to being a very competent 2x TC, it gives you infinitely varyiable macro ratios down to 1:1 (with a real 1:1 macro lens, I think it'll give you @ 1.5:1). . . so a 50/1.4 will become a 100/2.8 1:1 macro, for example.

Not quite as good as a dedicated macro, but pretty good, IMO. -- just offering another option to consider.

john, i've noticed that sometimes the mechanical aperture link needs to be adjusted on some lenses for them to fit thd Dseries. my 1o5macro was like this. the bar on the lense needed to be pulled away from the lens body just a hair. ck it out and see if that's the prob..
