I thought I'd read that there is a remote -- you know, like an infared TV remote -- that you can get for the *ist series.

Is there?

And if so... where might I find one?

Hi philmon,

You're looking for the Pentax remote switch "F", currently on special at B&H:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation

For a wired remote, the Canon RS60-E3 for the EOS cameras works perfectly, and is less expensive than the Pentax version.

I have one of each of these, and can vouch for their quality.

There are also Chinese (?) versions of at least the latter available on ebay that are really inexpensive, but I don't have one, and trust the quality of the Canon one personally.

Oh yeah, there are other alternatives for an infra-red remote like a program or script for a Palm, and some universal TV remote, but I haven't used any of these, and most seem to have prett limited range.

I have this wireless one that is shipped from China off ebay. It came in less than a week and works perfectly. The price is very low, but the shipping is five times the price of the unit but still only $12.

TV remotes work quite well... I've read that sometimes you have to get a universal remote and use the code search, but mine worked right away(although if I use it near the tv it turns on and off at the same time the camera fires).

I have the one that snostorm suggested. The local camera shop had it for $24.95 but the asst. manager overheard me talking up the sales staff to another customer& sold me a floor model for $14.95 (for once, brownnosing paid off ... but they are very helpful). Anyway, I originally got it for my zx-7 but it works great with my dl.

I just bought one yesterday from Adorama for $15.95, $4 cheaper than B&H, same part number 37377...

Go to Adorama.com, search for Pentax Infrared remote, and go to page 3, and among other stuff for hundreds of $$$ is the remote LS series F for $15.95, plus shipping for $5 more...

I have used Adorama, Tristate and Beach and can recommend all highly, have bought from them since mid-90s, when you ordered off a toll free line from their ads in photo mags

As much as I respect B&H, I just never have bought from them, no special reason
