Since this has gone bumpety bump for no recent poster reason I will only reiterate can't say for ANY OTHER Pentax camera.... but on the K10D seems to function just fine, and now 6 mo down the road (quite reguar use) no damage impact either..

Just got a Pentax AF 500 FTZ and using it with my DS-the flash is set to TTL-yet is over exposes by at least one stop. Put a diffuser on the flash head-helped a little but still not great. Went into the camera settings and changed the flash compensationto - 1.0. This solved the problem-should this be necessary-situation ocurred with lenses 16-45 and DA 40 2.8. Thanks

Not sure about those lenses, as I don't have them, but I use the same setup (DS and AF-500FTZ) and don't have a problem with overexposure. Not sure why that would be happening...

Got the 7500DX Digital by Promaster. It comes with a snap on diffuser and what impressed me the most is that I took five continuous shots and the flash maintained proper exposure throughout my panning and shooting in the camera shop. I used this with the K100D. Works well also with the DS which I loaned to a friend who has the DS.

Will the Sunpak 383 work with my Pentax K100D ?
All I want to do is take shots indoors sometimes.

Sarah, Roy, and all the others who have contributed to this thread:

Thank you. A lot of work has gone into this, and it is a tremendous resource for those of us who know practically nothing about flash work. I am getting ready to invest in my first external flash, and this thread gives me a lot more confidence in what to look for.

There is one question, however, about which I am still unclear. What is the guide number on a flash's specifications? (I'm assuming a measure of flash power) What sort of guide number should I be looking for? In comparing two flashes, how important is it?

In looking on ebay, trying to find an inexpensive flash, one I see that promises full P-TTL functionality is from Digital Innovations. I'm a little bit leery when I see anything they offer because I haven't been impressed with much I've seen with that brand on it. Anyone with experience? Are they junk?

(I shoot a K10)
