I'm able to buy a set of AF macro extension rings from the brand "Topaz" for about 45$, new

Is this a good deal or should I keep looking? Thanks.

Since there are no lenses in extension tubes, off brands can be a good choice.

With macro shots, auto focus is not a big deal. I usually fine-focus by moving the camera. It's more reliable than using the camera-lens auto-focus capability (e.g., with the F 100).

What is important is the extension tubes transmitting the data for the lens apperture. The tubes do have an effect on light reaching the sensor.

yes, af sucks in macro , i agree 100% but the AF tubes as you have do talk to the lens. my coupled set does not so i can not high speed sync with the flash when i use them.

larry??? has it been hot enough for you here?? i suffered a mild case of heat exhaustion last week that put me down for 2 days..

this is the link:

It's important that I keep the automatic diaphragm & metering, so I can use the kit lens (which doesnt have an aperture ring)

So I'm gonna go ahead and get the AF set. It's new, it looks of decent quality and it won't lose any of the functions of my lenses.

Btw: in the auction you posted:

Tip: The extension ring set has no electric contact, so you will have to set your camera in manual focusing and manual exposure. Test shots may need for proper exposure.
So no aperture coupling I think...

I think the "Auto" stands for aperture coupling, not Autofocus. I've got a set of "Vivitar Automatic Extension Tubes" and what it does is that it automatically couples the aperture mechaically. No electrical contacts at all. The ad says Pentax K, not KA or KAF. Check thoroughly before you bid, in the picture you can se something that might be the electrical contacts after all. Or just marks after use with A lenses, it's hard to see. There is obviously no AF connector. I've been searching extension tubes like that (keeping all the communication between lens and body, mechanical as well as electronic) but have still not found them. Anyone know if they exist?

kjell,

are you looking for tubes that supportboth AE andAF or just AE? there's a 13mm tube on ebay right now that has the electrical contacts but doesn't do AF. i don't know how to do the link thing but they're not hard to find with a search.

all the best, eric

Well in the picture it clearly says PKA/AF on the side of the tubes.

If it doesn't work out I can always resell it...
