My istD has 3 focusing and 3 metering methods with dials for each on either side of the camera. Would anyone care to expand on the very badly written manual?

Thanks

Roy, I have RARTFM but it is so, IMHO inadequate. Of course in the ole days we didn't have so much to learn - did we.

Try reading it at 5am by mini-light in a car. I've been trying to absorb some of the little points in the K100D manual and often stop to say "huh?" I've also found things in it that I would swear weren'tstated in the DS manual (but probably were and I just missed it). It's very good at explaining the "how" for the camera, but not so much on the "why." Guess that's why photography falls into the "Art" category!

Auto Focus:
Auto= This lets the camera decide where to focus. Will run you nuts.
Sel= You control the auto focus point by moving it around with the 4 way controler.
'The Dot' = Center point only auto focus. What evers on the point, that's your focus point. When I use auto focus I use this method, and then re compose the shot.

Metering:
Spot= What ever is in the center of the veiw finder, on the spot is metered.Very narrow range.
Center Weighted= Just like your old fim camera, takes an average of the center of the image, larger than spot metering.
Multi Point= Takes a reading at all the metering points and the camera suggest settings for the image. Works very well.

I bounce around between Multi and spot metering. I then adjust as needed.

Halelulah. Why didn't the manual say that - now everyone knows how really stupid I am. :roll:Thanks Dana.

Believe it or not I was also getting confused with the graphic icons. They looked the same therefore my mind was just, well.... I got it now.
