I used my sigma 70-300 with the extension tubes numbers 1 and 2.

Using the 70-300 gives me that bit more distance between me and the subject which is great if it's likely to fly off, however, it is difficult to keep a steady hand with the extra weight, looking forward to getting the 55mm lens that Roy is sending me, should be much easier then.

alison, just checked using 64mm of ext with my 50mm. lens distance from the front of the lens to subject is 30-40mm, 1 1/25- 1 1/50''inches. me!! i'm allergic to stinging insects. i'll stick with at least a 100m. about the only reason i'm keeping my M200 f4 is that with 64mm ext rings , it's a great 1:3 macro with about 30'' of working distance.. the 55mm will give you a little better than1:1 but you'll have to close..

That's ok, I can do close! lol! I've been known to stick my face right in a bush full of wasps before now to try and get a good shot, prefer them to spiders, would never get that close to a spider! lol!

Oh I like that, love the white flowers against the insect. So this was done with the 55mm with extension tubes was it?

Sorry to laugh, must be horrible being without the camera, it will be worth the wait I am sure.
