It appears the forum just hates Safari, I guess I'll just have to use Firefox when I want to post here from now on, I've edited this too now.

Well today the camera arrived via Express shipping (much to my surprise as this was FREE shipping). I could hardly contain my excitement while setting everything up. I would firstly like to thank the people on this forum for convincing me that the K100D was worth the extra $100; I am not disappointed.I decided to post some of the best of my first round of photos + 1 question.

Q) My mom's Pentax-M 1:2 50mm is (obviously) a 50mm lens not automatically compatible with the Shake Reduction feature of this camera. In such an instance the camera asks you to input the focal length of the lens so the SR can work. I was wondering whether I am to set it to 50mm or since dSLR's crop factor if I am to set it higher (75mm)? Thanks!

On to the photos. I shot it JPEG *** today but I do want to try RAW out sometime. I have a whole bunch of photos I could show you but I'll limit myself to a few. All shot with the 18-55 Kit Lens.

Wow, that is impossible to both read AND edit!* Is it just me or does this forum hate breaking up paragraphs?* If anyone can tell me how to fix this, greatly appreciated

Congratz on your new camera. Very nice initial test shots. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I tried to look at your pictures, but it said you had moved them.

As far as your question on the focal length- since all of digital photography has been using the 35mm figures, I've been using whatever the lens is for the focal length. I used 50mm when using the M 50mm 1.4 and 24 when using the M 24mm 2.8 lens. It seems to work all right. I don't think it will make that big of a difference until you get into the longer lenses.

50 mm is 50 mm, so if the camera asks you for focal length that is what to write. The crop factor issue is just a question of making old film camera users understand what to expect from the lens. It will dissappear just as quick as the inch/pounds/gallons masuring system disappeared after the revolution in France when the meter system was introduced and adopted by the civilized world:lol::lol::lol::blah:.

Macintosh discrimination! GAH! Mtngal, the reason it said they are moved is because is because the forum randomly included parts of the next sentence into the link, after you click on them you have to remove the end parts until you just have .jpg.* And some of the URLs didn't even come out as links; they're hidden in the text.*

I like your photos - looks like you are going to have no problem with it. The color on that lily is nice - different than the ones they plant around my office. When you are taking pictures of macro things, you might want to change to Av mode and use a smaller aperture - I've found with growing lacy things that using an aperture the camera chooses means that the out of focus closer parts distract from what's in focus. But then, I usually have problems getting a subject like that to look right even when I do get the DOF right (sigh!).
