This morning we drove to Vegas. It was an uneventful drive, but a nice sunrise (happens quite often in the Mojave Desert). I've tried to take pictures from a moving vehicle before, with so-so results. Many of mine came out fairly well this morning - thought I'd share this one. It was taken when we were near Boron, I think, along Hwy. 58. My hubby was driving and there wasn't much traffic, so we were probably traveling at 65-70 mph (as I recall, that's over 100 kph, but don't really remember the conversion exactly - my days of driving where units of measure make sense is a long time ago). The picture is handheld, through a rather dirty windshield, about 5 - 10minutes before the sun came up, taken with the DA 50-200 lens. I know the SR made a difference with this picture.

If they are that sharp at 60mph, I can't wait for the ones when you are standing still.

I was planning on some shots from the lounge at the top of the Rio, but didn't get to it this time, possibly you could get over there just as the sun goes down.

Best view of Vegas in town.

We were at the Rio for lunch, and the VooDoo Cafe is no longer openthen. Of course, since we were on the mission of looking at scooters, I didn't takemy camera (the Rio was an afterthought). Maybe one of thesetrips I'll spring for a ticket to go up the Stratosphere tower around sunset. We used to enjoy having a lovely dinner at Binion's top floor steakhouse, but haven't been there in several years. With all the high rises that have been built, the skyline might not be so dramatic.

It is still great from the Rio from dusk to dawn, when you can't see all the rest of the city clutter, only the bright lights of all the Casinos.
