I tested a DL2 in a shop the other day, and when a new target was selected, i'm sure I had to part depress the shoot button to refocus.

I played with an Sony a100 today and it refocussed all the time.

Does the K100D operate the same as the ist range? (focus only on shoot button)

Do you think its a good idea to constantly refocus (when required) like the A100 did?

I guess that K100D was set to AF-S (single autofocus) not AF-C (continuous autofocus)- so nothing weird there. I personally use AF-C only when shooting running kids/children- and even in this case rarely.
