I'm trying out on old 45~125 SMC Pentax Zoom lens with my istD but no matter what settings I use it doesn't work.

The AV - - flashes on and off and the only other marking on the top lcd panel is the battery and number of remaining frames.

Any ideas? Thanks

My first guess is clean the contacts. Is that K mount? Or A or M.

This might be an answer of the type I hate to get from my dear one: "Where're the scissors?" "Have you looked in the drawer where we keep the scissors?" but anyway: Did you follow Edvinas steps in this thread (second post)?

http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=80

If so, have you tried to clean the K-mount ring with an eraser, to make sure there is no kind of short-circuit between the contacts on thebody?

If this doesn't work, have you tried to smash the lens against a brick wall?

just checked. it's a fully manual lens. set cam on 'manual' and select 1/180 or slower foe shutter and set your aperture. take pict.

edit. the same with the onboard.

edit again: if you use the sigma it needs to be set on P-TTL

Kjell, thanks for the link to the other thread - went there but I don't have:

"Go to "Custom Setting" menu and set "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted". By default it is "Prohibited".

Roy and all thanks but it is not a Sigma it is a Pentax SMC. I've tried as you said, set to manual BUT none of the dials work/make any changes.

Since there are no contacts on this lens, everything will have to be set manually on the lens, with the camera on M and then press the AE-L button on the back to allow the camera to meter properly.

Then the flash will have to be in manual mode and set to what ever setting you have decided to use on the camera.

for enabling manual lenses on istD:

in another thread billybianca wrote: Under "Custom Settings" one option is "F stop other than A" which should be set to "on", default is "off".

but with dial set to manual mode onboard flash fires only at full power (at least on DL, maybe D is different but I doubt it).
