Boy did I ever goof! I just discovered that this is not the DG model I thought it was which means Im not even so sure that the $225 was such a good deal for the thing. Since the DG can be found $349.

Relax, the 1:2.8 means the maximum aperture is f2.8. From comments I have read here on this forum and elsewhere the DG series are not seen as being any different from the identical non DG lenses, they just cost more. If I am wrong I am sure someone more knowledgable here can correct me.

the DG model has a different coating on it's rear lens. i haven't seen anyone post that they can see a difference in photos taken with either. reflections off the sensor's low pass filter can affect the image if the conditions are right. $225 for the sigma 105mm is a GREAT price.. 1:2.8 is the widest aperture it can attain. don't worry, you are getting a 1:1 ratio lens. you will definately enjoy it..
